iMobile phone manufacturers have recognized their consumers desire to protect themselves from loss or damage through accidental damage plans.  This has lead to programs with various features and service levels that can be tailored to one’s budget and comfort level.

These plans are usually offered in addition to the standard warranty that applies for additional fees and they are designed to prevent a consumer from having to shell out even more money to replace a damaged wireless product, but some plans also offer protection for information stored on your wireless device.  Backup systems are available that can preserve your entire address book which will prevent the arduous process of re-entering all of those names and numbers.

Plans are usually available on a monthly basis and are added right to your mobile phone bill.  In some cases there is a deductible that will apply, which is an amount that you will have to pay in the event of a loss before the plan benefits kick in.  This amount can vary from plan to plan, and can even vary within a plan for a change in the cost of the plan.  Higher deductibles mean a lower cost to you for the plan.

Many plans have a deadline instituted for enrolling of 30 days or less and mobile phone companies make it easy for you.  You will often be able to register for the plan directly from your mobile phone via text message or through a mobile download.

Claims under such a plan have restrictions and limitations.  One of these limitations is the number of claims that may be made in any 12-month period.  You may be only limited to one or two, and there may also be a dollar limit to what the plan will pay.  Be sure this limit is enough to cover the cost of your wireless device.

The types of losses that may be covered by these plans include water damage, mechanical damage, or impact damage.

IF your wireless device has many accessories, be sure to review how the damage plan covers these items.  In some cases, the plan will limit the number of accessories that can be covered.

When you are shopping for a wireless device, review the accidental damage plans that are available through the manufacturer of that device.  Be sure to also check out plans that are offered by independent third parties.  You may find a lower cost coverage available, or a plan that offers broader coverage for your product.  With any plan, the devil is in the details so take some time to learn what you can before making your purchase decision.
